I mean very very very hot! Oh, Chilli Padi, or a.k.a. Cabai Burung (anyone knows how that ‘birdie’ tag came about ?)
Cannot remember clearly now how or when I first fell in love with this fiery stuff. Probably in my teens. It was Love At First Bite – an explosive affair that set one on fire, beginning from the tongue. Each encounter triggered torrents of passionate tears, downpours of sweat and rivers of mucous.
In time to come, I became much addicted to it, and no meal would be complete without a small bowl of chopped cabai burung – both red and green – soaked in soya sauce and a little bit of black vinegar. What was your story ?
